First I did a "sketch" watercolor of a section of the painting to see what obstacles I might incur especially painting fuzzy, soft fur. I'm so glad I did the preliminary sketch because I ended up not being happy with the results. I decided to try and take a departure from my usual painting style which is somewhat tight to a looser approach and am happy with the results!
Archie loves to lounge and sleep on his back with all four paws in the air! He looks so relaxed and cute I can't help but to give him a few pets! That's when the purring begins!

Kittie, it's BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I am so happy to see you venture out into the world of painting animals :) And that was a brilliant move - doing a practice of the soft fur. LOVE this!!!

Thanks so much, Kathryn! It sure was fun to paint! I would love to try more of the looser style too.
DeleteOh Kathleen, That's adorable! I love how blue you've painted him. It works so well.
ReplyDeleteWell, my cat really is blue. Ha, I'm kidding! For blacks I often use french ultramarine and burnt sienna but liked the look with more blue! Thanks for commenting!
DeleteKittie.......I am blown away! This painting of Archie is FABULOUS!!!! Wow...you have captured him perfectly and his fur looks soooo soft! I also love that you went out of your comfort zone...something we need to do more often...because it could not have turned out any better! Just goes to show that you are truly one amazing artist!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Gail, this kitty painting is outstanding! So loose and luscious, both the painting and the kitty.
