Merry Christmas!
I painted "Ruby Poinsettias" for this year's Christmas card. It's a 10"x13 1/2" watercolor.
So here is wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Oh Kitty....this is the most beautiful poinsettia paintings I've ever seen! I started one and have been struggling with it and even thought "hmmm, I wonder if Kittie has ever painted poinsettias before"! And then...here it is...this truly gorgeous painting right before my very eyes! Your reds are amazing and the light in the lower left corner is wonderful. This is award worthy!! I LOVE it!
This is the first poinsettia painting I've ever done. I looked for a white or pink plant to buy and set up to photograph but couldn't find one at that time. I ended up with red which, for me, is a hard color to paint! It was easier to do because I zoomed in one one flower instead of a group which always appeals to me!
If you are still struggling with your painting, try a white flower. They are glorious the way that surrounding colors reflect into it making it fun to paint!
It's funny that you suggested a white flower....I do have one that I photographed and did paint a very small 3" X 3" on a card zooming in very close on it. I think I will give it a try larger like you did...but I still want to work on the red ones! Thanks for the tip!
What a gorgeous poinsettia, Kittie!!! I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathryn!
