New Cactus Painting

Today I finished a cactus painting I started at the beginning of this month. It always feels good to complete a piece and to start a new one. It's the in-between that has so many ups and downs, little hurrahs and doubts, accomplishments and frustrations . .  .well, you get the picture!

"Sunwashed Cactus" is done on Arches 300 lb. cold press watercolor paper.

Here are some earlier works that are related:

  1. I love the intensity of the flower buds against the more subtle "leaves". [What are those called with cacti?] It is a gorgeous composition, with such beautiful and rich colors!

  2. Hi Kathryn,
Thanks for your comments! We have so many different cactus types here in Southern California. I know this one as 'prickly pear cactus' which is probably a common name and don't now what the proper name is. This particular plant is at the Huntington Library.
